to both fish and read."

Plenty to do and see!!! Bring your boat(s) or rent ours. We offer kayak, bike, and motor boat rentals. Plus there is free use of our canoe. Maybe charter a boat from one of the Wenona Harbor boat captains for some fishing, birding and/or sightseeing.
We are home to the Eastern Shore's best fishing & sightseeing spots. Year round panoramic water vistas galore!!! Walk/bike Deal Island (6 miles long, 2 miles wide). A perfect blend of water vistas, harbor activity and old town charm. Bring your camera. It's one of the few remaining places on earth to harbor the commercial Skipjack sailboat. Do you like to eat crabs and fresh fish? Buy'em directly from the boat captains as they come in to harbor with their "catch of the day". Or enjoy catching your own.
Bird watch with our binoculars or yours from our 2nd floor OR as you bike or walk the Wildlife Management area which runs throughout the island. Birdwatchers can see Egrets, Herons, Pelicans, and Bald Eagles. Many from the raised living area of the cottage. Deal Island is home for many migrating Bird spiecies in the winter. Deal Island Wildlife Management Area, in Somerset County on the Eastern Shore, is one of the best places in Maryland to find ducks, geese and swans, as well as the rough-legged hawk, short-eared owl, black- necked stilt and rare Eurasian wigeon.
Stargaze...the Milky Way never looked more stunning!
Kayak or canoe too! Paddle the short distance (10 minutes from Wenona Harbor) to Little Deal Island...relax, fish, crab or dig for muscles on its beach. Explore the local tributaries such as the Manokin River.
You can also relax on the quiet beaches of Deal Island and Little Deal Island. Search for Sea Glass and historic artifacts. The gold standard is the hard to find red glass, polished to a satiny luster after years and years of being tumbled in the sand with hard and gentle waves. Walk the beaches, finding archaeological links to island life that once was.
And remember to save plenty of down time to enjoyboard games by the bay. This is a great place to reconnect with friends and family any time of year. Night time is campfire time around our property fire-pit! Hey maybe roast some oysters, muscles and/or S'mores as you gaze skyward for shooting star
